At the start of the game, players can either select “Tournament” or “Exhibition” matches. An exhibition match is one game played against another player or the computer. Tournament matches are similar to the real hockey playoffs. It starts out as the team of the player’s choice going against other teams in a elimination style tournament. The team that successfully beats all of the opposing teams is awarded the Konami Cup. There is a total of eight teams, four from Canada and four from the United States. The four American teams are New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Minnesota. The four Canadian teams are Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Edmonton.
